Friend.
This is something you’re not going to want to pass up - an opportunity to refresh and renew with ancient Easter as my friends Alexander John Shaia (of QUADRATOS) and Ally Markotich (of SOUL KINDLING) lead a virtual group deep into the heart of the message of Ancient Easter.
Ancient?
Easter?
Oh yes - Alexander John joined me on the podcast a couple of years ago to talk all about it. Watch/Listen to the episode HERE.
In short, the ancient path of Easter is much different than the Holy Week that is commonly observed today with it’s focus on atonement and sin and judgement. As Alexander John shares, “Quadratos’ fresh renewal of the ancient story returns us to the Easter of our first five centuries. In those early days, we prayed for the grace of a here-and-now transformation, a here-and-now resurrection. Wednesday to Saturday (before Easter Sunday) was a retreat-like experience, where we prayed that our hearts be fully alive, that our lives be filled with greater vitality and equanimity, and that we come to ever know the Holy One as an abiding presence with us. Yes, the prayer was to know that presence, especially in the midst of life’s most difficult days.”
Phew, doesn’t that sound wonderful?
This virtual retreat will be a special time of learning, contemplative listening (Lectio Divina) and creative practice. The ancient, here-and-now Easter has the incredible power to hold our hearts in equanimity, optimism and great love.
And now for the nuts and bolts:
When is this happening? A virtual group will gather live for 75 minutes each day on the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday BEFORE Easter Sunday, then with a concluding time on Easter Tuesday. There will be NO gatherings on Easter Sunday & Monday.
What’s the flow of each gathering? Following an opening prayer, Alexander John will lead the group in experiencing one of the great texts from the Gospel of John. And then Ally will guide the group in a contemplative creative practice with simple drawing and writing prompts to aid in deeper reflection and wondering.
Drawing? Yikes! Have no fear - this will be a time to express freely and so NO art experience is necessary, only a heart that is willing to explore and wonder.
Lastly - I know finances are tight, but be assured that Alexander John and Ally have stated they do not want finances to be a barrier to your experience of this ancient Easter. Details are on the registration page, HERE.
I hope to see you there. I will likely be at the first couple of gatherings before Jordan is off for Spring break (April 18 - April 27), it’ll be a wonderful time for all. If you have any questions reply to this email and I’ll be sure to pass them along to Ally and Alexander John.
Much love,
