Conversations That Change You
ethics, morals, and different ways to be

Friends.
I recorded a podast interview today with Dr. Scott Gelfand, author of Thinking Ethically: A Handbook for Making Moral Choices.
And.
Can I tell you?
Some conversations go well. Some go really well. And some? Some change me, light a fire inside of me, and encourage me to keep going. And this was one of THOSE conversations.
Can I be real with you? Over the last year I’ve really considered ending the podcast. The last year has seen a mass exodus of listeners along with a major drop in Patreon/Substack support as I transitioned away from divisive/we’re right and you’re wrong rhetoric in search of a different, more unifying, more curious way to hold my energies without sacrificing my values. I’ve received emails, comments, feedback, etc. (mostly from my friends on “the Left”) that my views about love, compassion, and refusal to “other” people are vile, weak, and lack awareness.
And so as I’ve reflected on the pushback, I’ve often thought about tossing in the towel on the whole project and doing something else.
But.
I haven’t.
Why?
Largely because the small voice inside tells me to keep going along with the voices of my wife, mom, and few close friends. The What If Project was birthed the same year as my daughter and just as she has grown and evolved and matured - so has this beautiful project.
Today, though?
Today’s conversation made me feel so much less crazy as I talked to a philosopher and professor who helped me put words on so many of the things I’ve been wrestling with over the last year+. I ended the call feeling like even though I’m not sure where the path I’m on is leading, I’m on the right one and I just need to continue making my way - stepping into love, compassion, curiosity, and unity one small step at a time.
Because.
As Bad Bunny said last night in Super Bowl Halftime Show …
I won’t give away too much because this episode is one you really gotta hear for yourself - it drops on March 1 at 8pm EST on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, etc.
Thanks for being here, friends. So many of you have been with me on my journey, dating way, way, way back to my days as a pastor. Wild to think this is where we are all these years later? I don’t take your friendship, love, and grace lightly.
Sending much love,
