Popular forms of Christianity appeal to the false self and offer beliefs that purport to make the false self better in God’s sight than our neighbors and our enemies who lack such beliefs. Of course, Jesus never tells us what to believe, but rather how to be if we are to bring his kingdom to earth. Jesus’ words to his followers, therefore, are not compatible with that level of consciousness we have developed by being in the world.
