Friends.
Is there ANYONE on earth who knows how to be a kid more than Calvin and his “stuffed” tiger, Hobbes?
“Who is Calvin and Hobbes?”, you might ask. Only the GREATEST comic strip of all time! When I was a kid I had ALL of the Calvin and Hobbes books - and I still have them (some are pictured with the painting in the above photo)! Calvin embodies the heart of a child more than anything or anyone I can think of.
And this has been key for me over the past year as I have been digging through years and years and years of baggage to rediscover my own inner child, that younger version of myself with his …
Incredible imagination.
Wild dreams.
Deep hopes.
… that I shut away for a while in favor of more “mature” goals and more “realistic” dreams.
I had a lot of fun making this painting - I laughed while I made the silly faces and even shed a tear as I thought back on trips to the bookstore with my mom and grandma to pick up another Calvin and Hobbes book and all the ways these comics would fuel my young imagination with my own toys and stuffed animals … I long for that imagination again.
Don’t you? That wild imagination where anything was possible, where the worries of adulthood were kept at bay, where nothing really mattered other than the next adventure?
I see it in Jordan.
I see it when she plays.
I see it come out in me when I play with her.
And I see it coming out in my art, in my podcast, in my writing.
Yes - even though I stuffed my inner child away a long time ago, he never gave up on me … and he held on to the dreams and imagination and hopes and dreams we used to have together. They are still there, they still have life - and at 42 years old, we’re making them happen.
This one is called “REMEMBER”, an encouragement for us all to REMEMBER our hopes, REMEMBER our dreams, and REMEMBER to have fun in this crazy life.
Want it? Suggested price is $300 (for time, supplies, and canvas size), but if you message me or email me an offer in your budget - it’s yours, with NO counter offers from me.
Much love, friends.
